Magic Entertainment for Nursery, Primary and Secondary Education. Inc. Special Educational Needs facilities
Magic shows for term time and events / educational magic and workshops.
Steve Drury’s magic enchantment lends itself very well to the nursery and primary school key stage learning environment, where traditional and comedy children’s magic and puppetry can be used to present educational programme ideas and inspire children to take a fresh look at things. Read below for further details or click the Magic Workshops link for an overview of what is taught the merits of pupil -and adult - participation.
Steve Drury also presents environmental and recycling themed magic shows. Enquire for details / Environmental magic show feedback
Magic & learning
The link between entertainment as an aid to stimulate learning has long been a cknowledged. From an early age children go on wonderful journey of learning :
- letters, words, communication and reading.
- colours and creativity
- numbers and games
Enhancing these principles through magical illusions can have an inspiring effect.
Children later develop with books where magic is everywhere, from Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Prospero the soceror to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland to the modern day J.K.Rowling’s Harry Potter.
Steve enjoys both the challenge of devising educationally themed magic shows as well as presenting his usual inspiring magic and puppetry routines.
Ideal as a mid / end of term treat or to help enhance an educational workstream.
Puppets and learning
Why are puppets so fascinating to children ? It’s not because they are alive - they know they are not real, but still listen and speak with them as though they were. Also some children that are upset or shy may chat to a puppet that has shown “interest” in them in preference to an adult.
For teachers and assistants working within programmes (even up to Key stage 2) puppets can represent an invaluable resource.
Puppets, especially with a movable mouth can
- enhance the teaching of phonics in literacy
- be helpful in getting over basic number concepts in numeracy
- potentially assist children with specific learning difficulties or special educational needs by benefiting from the effect the extra dimension that a puppet can bring to the class environment.
Steve enjoys both presenting puppets educationally or as part of a show.

Hello Steve - Well, that was such a nice visit ! Thank you for working with my class today. They were all-a-buzz with excitement after your visit and they can’t wait to put on their own magic show this term. I think you found a nice balance between tricks simple enough for them to follow and some more “mind-blowing” ones. I’ll send you some of the pictures once I upload them from the camera. Thanks again, we really had fun !

Hi Steve I just wanted to say a really big thank you to yourself and the other magicians for your brilliant performances on Saturday at Wild Woods Day. We had such a brilliant day with around 900 people attending, and the rain held off! I know the children really enjoyed the shows and hopefully they learnt a little from it too! My little brother and sister came towards the end of the event and both got called up to help with a magic trick which they both loved.
Looking forward to working with you again. Thank you
